This museum traces Peru's archaeological history from the earliest pre-Colombian to Republican times. Its collection includes scale replicas of large archaeological sites, the original 'Estela Raymondi' and the 'Obeliscos de Chavin.' The museum also carries paintings from late Colonial and early Republican times and Peru's best textile collection, the Mantos de Paracas (see our photo gallery). The building that houses the museum was for a time the home of revolutionary heroes Jose de San Martín and Simon Bolívar.
